What a Preparer Needs From Behind Books

The preparer needs a file they can sign, not a pile of statements

A tax preparer with behind books needs financials that tie to the bank and card statements, a written list of what could not be supported, and a reason behind the decisions that are not obvious. Autonomi Books rebuilds that file. A licensed CPA reviews it before it goes back. Your preparer still files the return. We do not prepare it, and we do not contact the IRS.

If a deadline is why you are here, start at catch-up bookkeeping with a tax deadline. The diagnostic is $499. It credits toward the rebuild you approve in writing.

What to hand them

Hand them a general ledger, a trial balance, a profit and loss, and a balance sheet for each year you are asking them to use. Hand them reconciliations that tie to the statements. Hand them the gap report, with dollar amounts, for months or transactions that have no source document.

Do not hand them a spreadsheet of guesses labeled as income. Missing records and gap reports is why those holes stay named. Your preparer decides how to treat them. That decision is theirs, not a number we invent so the return looks finished.

What to gather first is the stack of statements that makes this possible. Without the statements, the preparer is in the same position you were in.

What we will coordinate, and what we will not

We will talk to your preparer if you want us to, so the open items are the ones they actually need. We will not file, amend, or represent you. Unfiled years for tax professionals is the same boundary written for the firm that is running the case.

Keep your preparer. The rebuild is the part that was stuck. Filing stays where it already was.

If the deadline already moved once

An extension changes the filing date. It does not create books. The 2026 extension dates have passed. If the statements are still in a pile, January will arrive the same way.

Get a fixed quote and tell us the preparer is staying on the return.

Start with the $499 diagnostic

A read-only review of the records. You get findings with dollar amounts and a fixed quote to fix them. The $499 credits toward the work.
