Three Ways We Protect a Practice

Emergency Continuity Plan

If you practice solo, everything your clients rely on runs through one person. A practice continuity agreement is the standing plan for what happens if illness, injury, or death takes you out of the work. Ours costs nothing to put in place. Nothing changes while you're practicing, and no one but you knows it exists. If the day ever comes, your clients' work continues without interruption and your family is never left running a practice.

Put a plan in place

Planned Phase-Out

Retire on your timeline, not a buyer's. We take over the monthly client work on a schedule you set, and you're paid a share of revenue as clients transition. Keep the parts of the work you want, including tax seasons, for as long as you want them. No fire sale, no lump-sum haggling, no client left without a home.

Plan a phase-out

Immediate Transition

For spouses, executors, and partners of a practitioner who can't continue. We stabilize the client work first, so deadlines get met, then sort out the practice at a humane pace. If you're holding a practice you never expected to hold, call us before clients start leaving.

Every Client in Your Book Keeps a Home

You built a book of relationships, not just a list of ledgers. In every transition, monthly bookkeeping and accounting move to our platform under licensed CPA review. Tax preparation is scoped in the agreement: continued by our CPA, by a preparer we place, or by you through the transition. Payroll and filings are placed with providers we stand behind. However the work is divided, every client keeps one point of contact and one responsible party. Us.

Why Practitioners Trust Us With Their Clients

We Have the Capacity, Today

The accepted standard for a continuation partner is simple: enough standing capacity to absorb a practice on short notice without dropping the work it already carries. Autonomi Books runs book reconstruction and monthly delivery at volume every day. That's the business you see on the rest of this site, and it's why we can say yes overnight.

A CPA Leads Every Transition

Every transition is led by Jade Wang, CPA, the same licensed CPA who reviews and signs off on every file we deliver. When your clients have questions, they talk to her team, not a call center. Your clients are introduced to a person, with a license, whose name is on the work.

Everything in Writing

Scope, timeline, revenue share, and who does what: fixed in a written agreement before anything moves. The same way we quote reconstruction work, and for the same reason. Nobody should transition thirty years of relationships on a handshake.

Your Clients Never Feel a Seam

Transitions happen client by client, on your schedule, with introductions made under your name. Fees don't jump, work doesn't lapse, and the standards your clients are used to are enforced by workflow, not promises: every account reconciles, every categorization decision is documented with reasoning and a full audit trail.

How a Transition Works

  1. 1

    A confidential conversation

Thirty minutes, no obligation. What your practice looks like, what you want for it, and whether we're the right home. Nothing you share leaves the room.

  2. 2

    A practice review

Under NDA, we look at the shape of the book: services, client mix, recurring revenue, and what you want to keep doing. This is how we scope honestly instead of guessing.

  3. 3

    An agreement in writing

Emergency plan, phase-out, or immediate transition, the terms are fixed on paper: what transfers, when, what you're paid, and who handles tax work.

  4. 4

    Client-by-client transition

On your schedule, with your introductions. Monthly work moves to our platform under CPA review. You stay as involved as you choose, for as long as you choose.

  5. 5

    You step back

For phase-outs, revenue share is reported and paid monthly. For emergency plans, nothing happens at all, and that's the point: the plan sits there, protecting everyone.

Common Questions

What does the emergency plan cost?

Nothing. There's no fee to put a practice continuity agreement in place and no obligation attached to it. We offer it because practitioners with a plan come to trust us with more, and because the alternative, clients stranded and a family managing a practice mid-grief, shouldn't happen to anyone in this profession.

Do you buy practices outright?

Most transitions are structured as a revenue share paid as clients transition, rather than a lump sum. It usually nets the practitioner more, it keeps everyone's incentives on client retention, and it lets you phase out instead of jumping off a cliff. If your situation calls for a different structure, that's a conversation, not a rule.

My book includes tax preparation. Can you take the whole practice?

Yes. Monthly accounting moves to our platform under CPA review. Tax work is scoped in the agreement: our CPA, a preparer we place, or you, through the transition. Many phase-outs work exactly that way, with the practitioner keeping tax seasons while we carry the monthly work. Every client keeps one point of contact regardless.

Will my clients' fees change?

Not as part of the transition. Continuity means the client's experience holds steady: same cadence, same or better deliverables, no surprise increases. Fee changes, if ever warranted, happen the way they should, transparently and over time.

I'm not retiring for years. Why talk now?

The emergency plan is the reason. It costs nothing, it protects your clients and your family starting the day it's signed, and when you do start thinking about a timeline, you'll already know exactly who we are and how we work.
