Same records rule. The form still depends on the matter.
Estate accounting and trust accounting are both fiduciary accounting. Each one reports what came in, what went out, and what is still on hand, built from the bank and brokerage statements for that period. Autonomi Books prepares that accounting from the statements. A licensed CPA reviews the file before it reaches you. The diagnostic is $499, and it credits toward the reconstruction if you move forward.
The words get mixed with something else. "Trust accounting" is also what people search when they mean a law firm's account for client funds. That is not this work. If the file is an estate, a trust, or a conservatorship that has to account for its own activity, start at estate, trust, and fiduciary accounting.
What is the same
The statements are the record in both cases. A transfer with no support is an exception, not a guess. A missing month stays missing until the statement exists. We do not estimate income because a brokerage statement starts halfway through the year.
We do not contact the beneficiaries, the court, or the IRS. You, or your counsel, own those conversations.
What is not the same
The schedules a court or a beneficiary expects are local, and they are not identical for an estate and for a trust. We do not publish a single form and call it universal. Sample layouts, with fictitious figures, live on the state pages. Wisconsin is one place that shows an estate account sample and a trustee report sample side by side. California and Florida are trustee-accounting samples. Read the page for the state you are in, then confirm the current form with your attorney. A blog post is not the local rule.
What fiduciary accounting is is the shorter definition. Probate accounting starts with the records is the collection list.
What to send
Send the statements for the period, the prior accounting or inventory if one exists, and the format your attorney says the matter needs. Partial records are normal. The diagnostic names what can be rebuilt and what cannot.
Schedule a call about one estate or one trust. If the file is a business the decedent ran, say that too. The entity books are part of the same records rule.
